(one month earlier)
Right now I’m all invested in preparing to host Bunco at the end of this month. I love planning for this. It’s something that I can take my time to prepare for and the ideas develop slowly. I normally have a theme, but decided to scale it down this year, so no theme. About 2 years ago I ran across the picture below on Pinterest that I wanted to use as inspiration for my next Bunco. That didn’t work out last year, so I’m using it this year.
I just love the look in this photo. Mine won’t look like this of course, but I hope to create something similar that I like.
This is a photo of the Bunco invites that I just finished creating. Again, I found something similar on Pinterest to use for inspiration. How did we live without Pinterest! 🙂

(fast forward one month)
Bunco is now over and it went wonderfully. Being retired is soooo nice. Now I can spend the time needed on what I want to do and not be so stressed! For the first time ever, I was ready early!! 🙂
Here are some shots before everyone arrived.
This is a shot of the main table. I not only used the photo above as inspiration, but also added other elements from Pinterest that I’d gathered and adapted. I kind of think of this as my Vintage and Burlap Bunco UNtheme. 🙂
I loved the flowers.
My husband made this wooden box for me from wood from my dad’s old gunshop sign. It will be a treasure I intend to pass on to my daughter. She’s already let me know she’s interested in this whole centerpiece setup. 😉
Many of these bottles are actual vintage bottles that have been unearthed and I purchased on Ebay.
My granddaughter, Dakota, helped me arrange the flowers. She is 8 and we had such fun working together! I really treasure the time that I get to spend with her.
Each burlap bag contained vintage keys. All but one had 2 keys. The person who got the bag with 1 big key won a prize. Dakota also enjoyed putting the keys in the bags for me. She was so excited to see who would win the prize and she put a lot of thought into which bag would be the winner.
(I purchased the bags online and added the keys and flowers to the outside of them.)
The cookbooks you see in this photo belonged to my mom. The blue one is from the 50s and the skinny one is a 1929 Frigidaire Recipes. The top book is just a book I covered in vintage paper.
This is one of the smaller tables. I loved how it all turned out. The plates are the ones we use everyday and are 2 patterns combined: Napoli and Pistoulet. The stemware I got on sale at Old Time Pottery.
Awww … now looking at the photograph I realize that I should have added a key hanging from the bow on the jar with the flowers. 🙁 That is a trick I learned when doing things like this: Take a photo of what you’re doing to see how it looks to someone else. You will
notice things that aren’t just right or things that need to be added. Of course, obviously I didn’t do this!
All 3 tables
Extending the decor to the outside entry. Shepard’s hooks with flowers on each side of the sidewalk.
It took me several trips and rolls of burlap ribbon, but I finally got the wreath finished.
My dad had the old milk can hanging around his house for years. Love it as a plant stand.
Dinner was a Salad Bar with 8 different salads. I used vintage shakers to make holders for name cards for the salads. This is Honey & Lime Fruit Salad.
This is Pineapple Spinach Salad. We also had:
Seafood Salad
Chicken Salad
with croissants for sandwiches
Mexican Corn Salad
Cornbread Salad
Loaded Potato Salad
Grilled Chicken & Grape Salad
And for dessert, Strawberry Cheesecake in a Jar … served in a 1/2 pt
jar. This is soooo good! I overfilled the jars with cheesecake, so you can’t see the strawberries. Oops!
The crockery and things you see in the background belonged to my mom and grandmother. The little pitcher was my grandmother’s syrup pitcher that she used on her table every morning. She made the best biscuits. I’m hoping to teach myself how to do that soon. Another adventure for retirement! 🙂
Oh, I don’t know if you noticed, but the silverware we used is a set I just inherited that belonged to my parents. So glad my sister doesn’t like silver!! And I forgot to take photos of my prizes … AGAIN!
A couple I made from Pinterest ideas.
